Australia's Energy Future: Australian Energy Policy and Climate Change

Abstract: This Report was prepared to satisfy two objectives: To inform members of Engineers Australia and the community about the direction of Australian energy policy and climate change and how and why change is required over the long term. To articulate Engineers Australia's position on climate change and energy policy. Over the years, there have been important developments in Australia's climate change policy, but it remains incomplete. Elements of a comprehensive framework have been identified, but current policy omits key components and lacks operational substance. Despite large outlays for greenhouse gas reduction programs, Australia has barely begun the task of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
