Abstract: In mid-2004, Mr Tony McCartney, former Chairperson of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO), outlined the past and present challenges to providing appropriate health care to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. The following is a short summary of the address to the Kimberley Aboriginal Health Summit held at Cable Beach, Western Australia in June 2004. The summit was organised by the Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Council.
