Volunteer Tourism: Tourism, Serious Leisure, Altruism or Self Enhancement?

Abstract: The article appraises the concept of voluntary tourism which has seen an expansion of activity and significant developments in recent years. It is seen that the commercialisation of volunteering is increasing and volunteer tourism emerges as a genuinely different form of tourism.
