'And There Came All Manner of Choirs:' Melbourne's Burgeoning Choral Scene since 1950

Abstract: The Melbourne Philharmonic Society, established in 1853, flourished after Bernard Heinze was appointed in 1937, particularly after ABC was engaging it for many performances. The state of choirs in Melbourne is examined from the time of Heinze's gradual lessening of duties at the Philharmonic, in the early 1950s till today.
