Abstract: 'Alternative Medicine: A New Regulatory Model' suggests that the current regulatory structure for health services is dominated by the public interest as defined by orthodox medicine. This has skewed the regulatory structure against consumer choices that favour greater reliance upon complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Weir proposes a model for the regulation of CAM that has policy objectives of consumer choice and information and quality control with minimal regulation.
